As an international charity, it is vital that Earthwatch makes effective use of information technology to develop its worldwide network of volunteers, staff, and scientists. In 2011, Earthwatch was delighted to receive the support of Microsoft, which donated software that has enabled Earthwatch to upgrade its global information technology and communications systems. Guidance from Microsoft consultants helped Earthwatch improve links among its seven international offices and develop innovative communication tools to connect its supporters and stakeholders around the world.

In 2012, Microsoft joined Earthwatch for a couple of two-day sustainability workshops in the U.K., bringing together the science of climate change and its relevance to Microsoft business activities and sustainability objectives. These were successful programs, with very positive feedback received.
