
Laela Sayigh, Ph.D.

Dr. Laela Sayigh has over 30 years of experience working with marine mammals, of which 13 have been at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) as a Research Specialist. She received her Ph.D. from the joint program between the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and WHOI, and her B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania. Her research focuses on social behavior and communication of cetaceans (whales and dolphins). Much of her work involves new technologies for recording cetacean sounds. She has extensive experience with supervision of student research projects at the high school, undergraduate, and graduate levels and considers the most fulfilling part of her job contributing to the next generation of scientists.
