What do you enjoy most/what do you find most interesting about your research topic?
I enjoy going into the field and finding that nature always surprises me, especially when I analyze the samples and notice or find new shapes and lifestyles that I´ve never seen before. I am in a hurry trying to find more and more wonderful creatures, but my time is so short, that I will never know all the biodiversity of zooplankton in Peruvian waters. I think the most interesting things about my research topic is to understand the process associated with the zooplankton dynamic at different scales (time and space).
How does citizen science support your research?
In the past few years, I have found citizen science supports my research through cooperation with both international and local projects. For example, at this moment I have an Understanding Memorandum with Japanese colleagues to elucidate the biological mechanisms of species alternations based on comparative analyses of the spawning habitat and population dynamics of small pelagic fish in relation to environmental factors in the Humboldt and Kuroshio Current Systems.
What is one of your favorite moments in the field?
Maybe one of my favorite moments at sea is when I feel the wind blowing on my face and at the same time feel it very cold, which make me awaken in front of a mysterious sea, which looks like never-ending, and to ask what else is there to discover?
