ClimateWatch is nominated as a finalist for enabling citizen science through technology
The Earthwatch ClimateWatch has been named one of 20 finalists in this year's Victorian Premier's Sustainability Awards in the Community category for enabling citizen science through technology.
Now in their 11th year, the Premier’s Sustainability Awards celebrate the efficient use of water, resources and energy, better waste management and recycling practices and recognize practical community action to improve the environment.
This year’s finalists are responsible for a range of visionary projects, showcasing Victoria’s strength in innovation and leadership in sustainability. Among the shortlisted entries is ClimateWatch for the newly created mobile phone apps, which is fostering the development of citizen scientists.
The ClimateWatch iPhone and Android app is the best way to record the seasonal behaviour seen in plants and animals that ultimately help scientists understand how Australia’s environment is responding to climate change.
Using the FREE iPhone/Android app you can record your observations in real time and anywhere, even if you have poor mobile signal. Through GPS, date and time stamps you can accurately record while bushwalking, at the beach or in the local park.
Winners for the Victorian Premiers Sustainability Awards will be announced at the awards night on October 22, 2013.
