Animal Planet Selects Earthwatch, Again!
If you’re a nonprofit that works for animals and the environment, how do you know you’re doing something right? Earthwatch got a good sign this year when we were again picked by the Discovery Channel’s Animal Planet to join their annual ROAR Campaign, a fundraising initiative that matches donations made to a handpicked group of animal and environmental nonprofits over the course of a month.
In 2013, this campaign raised money for seven organizations, including such venerable nonprofits as the Jane Goodall Institute, the National Wildlife Federation, and the American Humane Society—a group that we at Earthwatch are proud to be part of. Monica Lins, a project manager for marketing and strategy at Animal Planet, was happy to welcome us back: “Earthwatch has been a wonderful partner over the years, participating in the matching campaign and working to help many endangered species.”
What Earthwatch Brings to the Table
Earthwatch adds a global dimension to ROAR (which stands for Reach out. Act. Respond.), helping to fulfill the campaign’s mission to support a broad array of animal welfare projects. As Monica Lins explains, “We look to partner with organizations that have a large domestic or global reach and to enrich our portfolio so that we don’t have all partners with one focus.” Earthwatch stands out among ROAR organizations not only because of our international reach, but also because of our long-term focus—instead of helping one animal at a time (which is certainly a laudable goal), we support scientific research that has the potential to improve life for entire populations and species.
