Earthwatch is an international environmental nonprofit organization that funds field expeditions in more than 50 countries.

Earthwatch expeditions provide individuals with opportunities to participate in hands-on scientific research all over the world. We also partner with schools, businesses, governments, and other philanthropic organizations to enable a broad range of people to learn and change the world through our experiential model.

Staff members at Earthwatch develop, manage, market, and recruit for our varied expeditions, programs, and partnerships. Earthwatch does not employ the scientists or research staff that run the expeditions we support; they generally work for universities or other research institutions.


We currently have the following positions available.


Program Delivery Intern

This intern will support the Program Delivery team, which manages the development and implementation of Earthwatch’s citizen science expeditions, student fellowships, teacher fellowships, and corporate sustainability programs. As an intern you will assist in a variety of tasks that support the delivery of these programs. This includes helping to engage and inspire confident participants who are passionate about the environment and supporting sustainability.


Risk Management for International Programs Intern

This intern will support the Program Delivery team, which manages the development and implementation of Earthwatch’s citizen science expeditions. The intern will focus on our Risk Management practices, which are designed to enhance the safety of participants and scientists on our expeditions around the world. As an intern you will assist in a variety of tasks that support the delivery of these programs.


Research Projects Manager

The objective of this role is to support the development of Earthwatch’s citizen-science driven research program. The Research Projects Manager will be responsible for: supporting the development of new research projects that meet Earthwatch research standards; ensuring quality information is known and documented for all Earthwatch research projects; tracking and evaluating the impact of these projects toward our mission; supporting research input into grant proposals; and maintaining relationships with scientists. The Research Projects Manager must have a strong understanding of the biological sciences and the ability to interact collaboratively across internal departments and external audiences. The Research Projects Manager should have an ongoing drive to find better ways to do business and be able to constructively challenge the status quo in order to drive better mission delivery, revenue generation, and results.


Senior Development Manager

The Senior Development Manager plays a key role on a small Development team that is tasked with setting and implementing the fundraising strategy and tactical plan for a large global mission. We seek a bold, strategic professional with a proven track record in fundraising. Experiential Learning Intern

Earthwatch Institute is an international non-profit organization that supports field research worldwide in ocean health, cultural heritage, climate change, and wildlife and ecosystems. Earthwatch supports field research that utilizes highly motivated non-specialist volunteers, also called citizen scientists, to collect data. As an intern in the Field Research Expeditions department you would assist with a variety of tasks relating to recruiting volunteers to participate in citizen science and experiential learning trips, with a focus on high school aged groups. Applicants accepted on a rolling basis.


Business Development Intern
